Abortion is a major decision that will affect your future. No matter where you are in your pregnancy decision journey, get the facts about abortion. Talk to us at Agape Women’s Clinic to understand how abortion works, the risks, and steps to take beforehand as a safeguard to your health. Types of Abortion 1. Medical Abortion Medical abortion consists of taking two different abortion drugs: mifepristone and misoprostol. They work together to terminate an existing pregnancy. Mifepristone blocks progesterone, a hormone that sustains a pregnancy, and misoprostol causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy. 2. Surgical Abortion A surgical abortion is much more invasive and includes dilation of the cervix and a mix of tools and suction. Multiple surgical instruments are used to remove the pregnancy. It's a much more invasive process than medical abortion. Understand the Risks Each type of abortion comes with unique risks to your health. According to the Mayo Clinic , some of the physical risks of medical abortion (the abortion pill) include: The body not releasing all pregnancy tissue in the uterus, also called an incomplete abortion (this may require surgical treatment) An ongoing pregnancy if the procedure doesn't work Heavy and prolonged bleeding Infection Fever Digestive symptoms such as upset stomach The Mayo Clinic also shares some of the risks of surgical abortion, including the following: Perforation of the uterus Damage to the cervix Scar tissue on the uterine wall Infection Before an Abortion Be fully aware of your pregnancy details before making an abortion decision to protect your health. The FDA has only approved medical abortion (the abortion pill) for women through 10 weeks of gestation . To be sure of your pregnancy details, get medical-quality pregnancy testing and an ultrasound. Free Pregnancy Services in Round Rock, TX Schedule a free pregnancy test in Round Rock or in Cedar Park (both near Austin) to start getting clarity about your pregnancy. We provide medical-quality pregnancy tests. If your test is positive, we can help determine next steps, including scheduling an ultrasound exam. When you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy, it may feel like abortion is your only option, but nothing could be further from the truth. You have multiple paths forward, and learning about your choices can bring clarity and peace of mind. At Agape Women’s Clinic, we’re here to offer free and confidential pregnancy services and information to help you make a decision that’s right for you. You don’t have to navigate this alone. If you’re considering continuing your pregnancy, you have two main options: parenting or adoption. Each comes with its own challenges and rewards, allowing you to make a plan that fits your life. Parenting Choosing to parent can feel impossible, especially if it wasn’t part of your plan. It requires commitment, flexibility, and often, a support system. From sleepless nights to school drop-offs, parenting is a journey filled with challenges and unforgettable moments. It may mean adjusting your goals or seeking help from family, friends, or programs designed to support you. However, parenting could allow you to bond deeply with your child and build a future together if that’s something you desire. Adoption Adoption may be the right option if you’re not ready to parent but still want to give your child a hopeful future. Today’s adoption process is flexible and centered around your preferences. You can choose the adoptive family and decide how much contact you’d like, whether that’s regular updates, occasional communication, or complete privacy. This allows you to shape a plan that reflects your comfort and vision for your child’s life. Many women find adoption empowering. It’s a selfless act that allows you to care for your child and your future at the same time. Adoption agencies often offer support, including potential financial and practical assistance. We’re Here for You Your story is unique, and your decision should be, too. We offer free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, support, and a listening ear to help you explore all of your pregnancy options. Reach out today to schedule a confidential appointment. We’re here to walk with you during this challenging time.

If you recently found out you're pregnant, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed. But before making any decisions, it’s important to take a step back and think through all your options. Rushing into a decision without all the facts can lead to uncertainty and regret. If you’re considering the abortion pill, you need to know that this option comes with physical and mental health risks that should not be overlooked. Read on to learn more about how the abortion pill works and the risks involved—or contact Agape Women’s Clinic today to find a safe space to talk and ask questions. How Does the Abortion Pill Work? The abortion pill, also known as a medical abortion, is a two-step process: Mifepristone: This first drug blocks progesterone, a hormone needed to maintain pregnancy. Without progesterone, the pregnancy will detach from the uterine lining and eventually end. Misoprostol: Taken 24-48 hours later, this second drug causes cramping and heavy bleeding to expel the pregnancy from the body. Physical Risks of the Abortion Pill While the abortion pill is often marketed as “safe and easy,” the reality is that it carries significant risks. These include: Severe cramping and heavy bleeding, which may require medical attention Incomplete abortion, which can lead to a potentially life-threatening infection Nausea, vomiting, fever, and chills Serious complications if you unknowingly have an ectopic pregnancy, which the abortion pill does not treat Furthermore, some women have reported unexpectedly severe pain after taking the abortion drugs: I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t stand up straight. When I went to the toilet, I had to bend forward because it hurt so much to stretch. So it wasn’t much fun, you see. It’s okay to have a bit of stomach pain sometimes, but that was out of this world. [Participant 11] Mental Health Risks of the Abortion Pill Beyond the physical effects, abortion can also lead to mental health struggles, particularly if you feel pressured into the decision. Some women experience: Depression and anxiety Regret and guilt Emotional numbness Increased risk of substance abuse The emotional impact of abortion can last weeks, months, or even years, especially for those who were uncertain about their decision. Get the Information You Need Before Deciding Before taking any steps, you deserve to have all the facts. The best way to protect your health is to get a pre-abortion screening, including an ultrasound, to confirm: How far along you are If the pregnancy is viable (has a heartbeat) If the pregnancy is located in the uterus (to rule out ectopic pregnancy) These are all facts you need to know before seeking the abortion pill—as certain situations make you ineligible. Agape Women’s Clinic is Here for You At Agape Women’s Clinic, we offer free, confidential pre-abortion screenings, including lab-quality pregnancy testing and ultrasounds. Our team also provides a safe, supportive space to talk through your options and ensure you have the information you need. We’re here for you. Schedule your free appointment today.
